| Not only do I oppose the anti-gay marriage amendment, but I support extending civil marriage to same sex couples. The government should not be in the business of discrimination. By defining marriage as between a man and a woman, it is discriminating and marginalizing same sex couples who want to have equal rights as heterosexual couples. Jakobsson refuses to state her position on this issue or on the anti-gay marriage referendum while Blagojevich states "I don't support gay marriage." It doesn't get more straightfoward than that. The platform of the Green Party calls for equal marriage rights and the efforts of our elected officials demonstrate our dedication to our values. Jason West, Green mayor of New Paltz, New York married same sex couples and was presented with misdemeanor charges, which were eventually dismissed. |

| For years and years, our government participated in institutional racism against people of color. These acts kept opportunity far out of reach from their hands. We have yet to recover from the policies and racism continues. To reverse the effects of past prejudice, I support affirmative action in hiring practices and access to education. | |||||||||||||||||

| I absolutely support the abolishment of the death penalty. The risk for killing an innocent person is much too high. The death penalty does not deter crime, is racially biased, and erodes our moral authority.
Over one third of all prisoners are in jail for drug offenses. We should divert our energy from imprisonment to treatment. I support the decriminalization of victimless crimes, such as marijuana possesion. |
